What is the purpose of this site?
|
This site's purpose is to server as a central location where one can quickly test the availability and performance of over 1000 advertising servers on the Internet. This can be helpful if you are getting broken banners on your page and want to verify whether the problem is caused by a ad server or connection problems with your ISP.

Can I delete a server?
|
Servers that repeatedly test dead are automatically deleted. If you are aware of a server that you know is dead, mis-classified, misspelled or otherwise needs attention, you may also report the server by clicking on the "Report Server" link on the server's status screen and we will take a look at it and delete if necessary.

What does ping tell me?
|
Ping is a network
utility that sends one or more packets of data to a server and
records how long it takes for the server to acknowledge receipt
of the packet(s). It is useful to test whether or not a server
is having problems. Unfortunately, since some server administrators
disable ping for security or other reasons, ping results are not
always indicative of the health of a server.
Assuming the reception of ping packets is enabled on a server, ping will return a variety of results when packets are sent. For example:
If the server is on, connected to the Internet and not having any problems, the packets will be returned (no packet loss) and the round trip time for the packets will be reasonable - usually between 100 to 200 milliseconds (ms).
If the server is on, connected to the Internet and having problems, the packets may be partially returned (packet loss) and/or the round trip time for the packets will be unusually high.
If the server is on but has DNS related problems, ping will report the IP address as unknown.
If the server is off or not connected to the Internet, the packets will time out.
So a properly functioning server that accepts ping packets will return 100% of the packets sent by ping, without errors, with a reasonable round trip time.

What does a port test tell me?
|
A port test is a network utility that enables one to test one or more of a server's ports to see if they are accepting connections. A server has many different ports each of which may or may not be setup to accept connections. Most web servers are setup to accept connections made from web browsers on port 80.
If a server is down, the port would not
be accepting connections. If a server is up and the port 80 is setup to accept connections from web browsers, a port test of port 80 would indicate so.

What does traceroute tell me?
|
Traceroute is a network utility that helps users identify the network path and response times between the computer from which it is run and the target computer. It is useful to identify slow or broken routers on the path between the two computers.
Ideally the path between two computers returns results that
indicate no timeout and reasonable response times at each stop
on the path. Packets take a different route to the same destination
depending on where they start from. Thus a successful traceroute
from one computer does not mean it would also be successful
from another computer.
So running a traceroute from multiple computers/Internet connections, will help indicate whether the problem is limited to a specific traceroute path or occurs in multiple traceroute paths.

How do I add/remove one or more domains I own?
|
If you are the registered owner
or represent the registered owner and would like to make changes
to our list of your companies ad servers, please follow the
instructions below for immediate assistance. All requests must
come from an email address at the domain you are requesting
changes for. For deletion requests, we will reply to the address
to confirm your request.
To Add One or More Servers:
Email us a list
of the domain(s) you wish to be added.
To Delete SOME Of Your Servers:
Email us a list
of all the domains you wish to be deleted.
To Delete ALL Of Your Servers:
Email us your
company name and the reason you do not wish your servers to
be checked by our visitors.
IMPORTANT: Before, you request any domain be deleted,
please understand that none of the domains are automatically
tested at periodic intervals. Rather, they are tested only when
users click on a specific server link so the load on your server
is extremely minimal. Even when a test does occur, it is limited
to a ping of no more than 2 packets and a single test of port
80. After that, users are given the option to run a traceroute
from our server to the server being tested.
We will honor all requests to add or remove any or all
servers owned by you or your company as per our instructions. Since our visitors expect to be able to find all major ad servers
listed, any requests to have ALL of your ad servers DELETED
will result in your companies name added to a list of companies,
on our main page, that have requested all their servers
be removed. If you have provided a reason for removal as requested, this will be
noted on the page as well. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
